Le Cadavre exquis a l'honneur de vous faire part de la réouverture de la Galeries Surréaliste 16, rue Jacques-Calot qui aura lieu le lundi 10 Octobre 1927 à 3 heures de l'apres-midi
Galerie Surrealiste, Paris, 1927. 4 1/4 x 6" exhibition announcement, printed in white on thin cream paper. One of the first appearances of the Exquisite Cadaver, inviting the holder to the reopening of the Galerie Surrealiste. The invitation is illustrted with an engraving of the collaborative collage Cadavre Exquis, now at MOMA, which was created with André Breton, Max Morise, Jeannette Ducrocq Tanguy, Pierre Naville, Benjamin Péret, Yves Tanguy, and Jacques Prévert. The inclusion of the umbrella in the collage is almost certainly a reference to Maldoror. By giving gallery space and the authority it suggests to the aleatory game, the Surrealists showed their investment in both the ludic and chance encounters. A key piece of Surrealist ephemera. ] Small pinholes to tips and upper margin, with a narrow abrasion to left margin, creasing, and dust soiling. A worn survivor but among the rarest, and most important ephemera of the early Surrealist movement.
