FIRST EDITION 1551, imprint from colophon, Latin text, small folio, approximately 305 x 200 mm, 12 x 8 inches, large woodcut illustration to title page, woodcut illustrations throughout including 12 striking images of the signs of the zodiac, diagrams and historiated initials, printer's pictorial device on verso final page, LACKING FOLDING PLATE, poor reduced size facsimile tipped-in on first free endpaper, lacks blank page a6. Pages: [10], 1- 242, [2] - Errata with illustration on recto meant for page 145, and on verso a printer's device, collation: A-E6, F4, G-T6, V4, X6, bound in full early blind panelled calf, rebacked to style with raised bands and blind ornament in compartments, no label or lettering. Boards lightly worn, 2 corners neatly repaired, a touch of rubbing to head and tail of spine, free endpapers missing, armorial bookplate of Charles Vere Dashwood and early pictorial bookplate of William Jesse Freer on front pastedown, title page reinserted on a tab, slightly darkened in margins, ink number to top corner, small repair to 1 lower corner, tiny hole on image neatly repaired on reverse, small light brown stain to lower inner corner of a2 to B4, restarting on L2 to P6, minute hole in text on a2, no loss of legibility, lower corner of P5 neatly repaired. A very good copy, housed in a sturdy custom made felt lined clamshell box with gilt lettered black morocco spine and cloth boards.
