Oxford University Press 1957-58, New York and London. Abridged version. Two volumes; volume one is the abridged version of volumes 1-vi, and volume two is the abridged version of volumes vii-x. Uniformly bound in quarter red morocco with red cloth, spines in six compartments with gilt lettering, "Presentation Copy" gilt stamped to spine of volume one, which is inscribed by Toynbee to Holly Houghton on half title in 1961. Houghton's father was Arthur Amory Houghton, of book collecting fame; Toynbee's papers formed a prized part of the Houghton collection. These books in Houghton's signature red presentation bindings. Bit of rubbing to corners of bindings and along spine, slight toning and foxing to text block edges, staining to front board of volume two. [Attributes: Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
