Also included is a small booklet with a short overview of Heartfield's life and an explanation of each plate and the background on what it means. John Heartfield (1891-1968) was born Helmut Herzfeld in Berlin. He changed his name in 1915 because he was repulsed by Germany's anti-English war propaganda. He became one of the greatest satirical artists of his time poking fun at Hitler, the stock market, capitalism, the DDR (Deutsche Demokratische Republik) and many others. His brilliant manipulation of photo imagery won him world wide acclaim. Box in fair, all plates in very good condition.
