A Paris, chez Claude Barbin, 1666. 12mo. 132 pages. Contemporary vellum. Rare First Edition of this gallant work, the first by Balthasar Bonnecorse (1631-1706), consul of France in Cairo and Phoenicia, and poet. While in Egypt, he wrote this collection of madrigals on time and love, and sent it to Scudéry who had it printed. Reprinted in 1667, 1671 and 1687, it is illustrated with a beautiful copper engraving revealing the hours of love. Good copy. M. Lever, La Fiction narrative en prose au XVIIe siècle, p. 310.
