Ordnance Maps (Four) for Hertfordshire England 1834
London: Ordnance Map Office Tower of London. 1834. Maps. Set of four linen-backed ordnance maps for the county of Hertfordshire in southern England. It is bordered by Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire to the north, Essex to the east, Greater London to the south, and Buckinghamshire to the west. Maps are in very good condition with linen backing with green cloth on exterior of folded maps. Several small corner bends. Bookplate to exterior of one map for R. H. Johnstone. Maps show amazing amount of detail with parks, roads, rivers, greenbelts and villages and cities. Hand coloring outlines several regions for reasons unknown to this cataloger. Map published by the Ordnance Map Office by Lieut't Colonel Colby of the Royal Engineers and engraved by Benjamin Baker and Assistants with Writing by Eben'r Bourne. A paper label is pasted down at the base of each map noting that the maps are sold by Letts & Sons, 8 Cornhill Map, Chart & Globe Sellers Agents by appointment for the Ordnance Maps of England. A beautiful set, housed in a 3/4 leather over marble solander box with gilt on spine. Box is worn along the edges and corners but nicely protected these maps over the years. ; 4 pp .
