OSLER, William
Photograph, SIGNED BY WILLIAM OSLER, mounted on Hills & Saunders, Oxford, stiff card mount. Total size: 6.5" x 4.25".
[1905]. The upper corner of the photo has broken off and been reattached (see photos for front and back of that corner). The image of Osler is NOT affected by this break. SIGNED BY WILLIAM OSLER (on the mount): "Sincerely Yours, Wm Osler". This may be the first formal photograph of Osler after he arrived in Oxford in June 1905 to become the Regius Professor of Medicine. Another signed copy of the same image, in the same format, appeared at auction in 2019. On that photo Osler wrote the same inscription, on his right pant leg. Is that better or worse than the placement of his inscription on the mount in this signed photograph? Personally, I think the inscription is more readable on this example. [Attributes: Signed Copy]
