Period full tree calf with maroon & black spine labels. Marbled paper eps. Binding shows wear, with both boards detached. Lower black spine label lacking right half. Bookplate [Lewis C. Kinchela] to front paste-down; label remnant to ffep. Ex-lib, with small discrete markings to upper margin of copyright page [no other markings found]. Period po notes to ffep. A Good only binding with a VG+ textblock.. [2], xii, [3] - 643, [1 (blank)] pp. 3 plates (maps), at pp. 40; 67 & 91 [complete per the LCC Catalogue & Wagner-Camp]. 8vo. 8-5/8" x 5-1/4" A well-known title, per Howes, "First authorized and complete account of the most important western exploration and the first of many overland narrative to follow." Quoting Coues, as found in the LCC entry: "Of all of the reissues this one is the best, being nearest the original, of which [it] is a faithful and literal reprint..."
