Cornelius Tacitus; Arthur Murphy (Editor)
The Works of Cornelius Tacitus With an Essay on the Life and Genius of Tacitus Notes and Supplements and Maps
London: G G J and J Robinson, 1793. Leather. Good. 10.5" by 8". Various. The four volume set of Arthur Murphy's Works of Cornelius Tacitus. Bound in two uniform volumes. Four volumes bound in two. With three folding map plates of Asia, Italy and Germany. Unfortunately lacking the folding plate to volume I titled 'The Ancient World'. Cornelius Tacitus was a senator and a historian of the Roman empire. The surviving sections of his two major works examine the reigns of the Roman Emperors Tiberius, Claudius, Neros as well as those who reigned during the Year of the Four Emperors. In uniform half calf bindings with paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart with patches of slight rubbing to the head and tail of spines and to paper covered boards. Binding to first few pages of both volumes is tender, with the title pages creased and teared at the gutter. Otherwise, both volumes are internally firmly bound. Pages are age toned with instances of spotting throughout. Good
