By the Way. Verses, Fragments and Notes by William Allingham. Arranged by Helen Allingham. (INSCRIBED)
Longmans, Green & Co., London, 1912. First Edition (first printing) - a presentation copy, inscribed by the author at the head of the half-title: "Austin A.Johnson Esq. from Helen Allingham. August 1917". 8vo. 167pp. Blue cloth lettered in gold at the spine and upper board with four gilt rules to the backstrip ends and a triple blind border to the upper board. Just a touch of fading to the cloth at the backstrip and some light dust soiling to the top edge. Light partial browning to the free endpapers. Very good indeed in the scarce dust wrapper, tanned at the spine panel and with a little further uneven tanning to the front and rear panels, and nicked and a little creased at the spine ends with several tiny areas of loss. A one-page preface by Helen Allingham, the author's wife, precedes an uncommon selection of verses, fragments and notes by the Irish poet, editor and dramatist, whose work was an inspiration to W.B.Yeats. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]
Bookseller: Clearwater Books [London, United Kingdom]
