Illustrated by Harry Dixon, a noted artist in the field of natural history. Sir Samuel W. Baker was an English explorer, naturalist and big game hunter. He is considered a highly influential figure in Victorian hunting, beginning in the Scottish Highlands. When his work as a traveller led him to Ceylon, he began hunting overseas and consistently for the rest of his life across Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. Baker also left a wealth of knowledge in regards to the science of hunting weaponry, as well as his observations regarding the animals themselves. Wild Beast and Their Ways was considered a highly influential work owing to Baker's detailed observations of the animal world. The volumes features the likes of elephants, boar and antelope.
