L'Edition d'Art, H. Piazza. 1914 Quarto 12 x 9 1/4 inches. Finely leather bound by Henri Blanchetiere- full dark blue morocco with brown inlaid panels forming an Arab window to a sea of inlaid flowers- with Arabesque corner tools, decorated with blindstamped Arabesque swirls and patterns. Spine in compartments to match. Gilt inner dentelles and fine dark blue silk endpapers. All edges gilt. Held within a leather trimmed slipcase with blue marbled paper boards. Internally followed by an additional two sets of endpapers, two superb chromolithograph title pages of intricate Arab designs. Limited to 500 copies sur papier Velin (number 159). Illustrated with 20 fine pochoir plates by Leon Carre- both romantic and semi erotic- the plate borders with Arabic script and the plate flimsies with small descriptive cartouches. Text- in French- decorated throughout with elaborate chromolithograph borders and Arabesques and chapter headings in Arabic. Even the page numbers (6-84) are within Oriental cartouches. A series of Arabic romantic poems translated by the great French Orientalist and translator of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam - Franz Toussaint (1879-1955). The illustrator Leon Georges Jean-Baptiste Carre (1878-1942) was a French Orientalist painter and illustrator, noted for illustrating The Book of One Thousand and One Nights. Bound by Henri Blanchetiere (1881-1933) - a notable French designer bookbindier. A MAGNIFICENT COPY IN FINE CONDITION.
