Longmans Green and Hodder & Stoughton the final vol. - 1965, 1936. FIRST EDITIONS, the final two volumes with some very faint spotting to prelims, crown 8vo, original blue or green cloth (the final volume in boards), some occasional light spotting to edges and endpapers, a little rubbing in places, dustjackets to all but third and fourth volumes, those to early volumes tatty (but scarce), good condition overall (some very good). All volumes are inscribed affectionately by the author on the flyleaf to her schoolfriend Stella Crow, and dated to the time of publication. In most cases she signs as 'Paddy (Stella Gibbons)' – this being her nickname at the North London Collegiate School where she met the recipient (also employed for the heroine of stories she wrote whilst there). Stella Crow was one the dedicatees of Gibbons' novel 'The Bachelor', one of a few close friendships made during her school years – and evidently an enduring one. Many of these books, particularly the earlier work, are scarce, even without the superb association they carry here. [Attributes: First Edition]
