Rare Uncut Copy in the Original blue boards [paper spines missing] In 1811, Golovnin, a Russian naval Lieutenant, landed on Kunashiri Island, where he was arrested by the Bakufu and imprisoned for 2 years. His release was eventually negotiated by Captain Rikord, who sailed to Japan on the Russian sloop-of-war Diana, taking on board a number of Japanese seamen shipwrecked off the coast of Kamchatka and capturing the captain and several crew from a large junk along the way. Golovnin's narrative describes his years in captivity, as well as early observations of life in Japan., Golovnin described and mapped the Kuril Islands from the Strait of Hope to the eastern shores of Iturup Island Excellent uncut copy, requiring reback.
