Full Leather unsympathetically repaired with a new leather spine and new bright white end papers. Damp staining to many of the pages and to the second folding map. A classic landmark in the exploration of North America. This volume also contains what MacKenzie calls "a Preliminary Account of the Rise, Progress, and Present State of the Fur Trade" in the United States. Contains two fold-out maps: "A Map of America between Latitudes 40 and 70 North and Longitudes 45 and 180 West, Exhibiting Mackenzie's Track From Montreal to Fort Chipewyan and from thence to the North Sea in 1789 & to the West Pacific Ocean in 1793." torn and repaired to the join with the volume, minor damp staining more prominent to the first fold and folded to the edge of the map, tanned and foxed, with, "A Map of Mackenzie's track from Ft. Chipewyan to the North Sea, in 1789." which is badly damp stained to the top fold, darkened and tanned, torn to the join with the volume and some of the folds. Two sections giving "Examples of the Knisteneaux and Algonquin Tongues" p131-142 and "Examples of the Chepewyan Tongues" 158-162. With the half title and Frontispiece portrait of Mackenzie. Preface dated November 30, 1801. Pagination is 1 to 250 and then 253 to 290 with text continuous. No pages missing. xiv, 1-250, 253-290pp; Approximately 8 inches tall.
