A Lovecraft Retrospective: Artists Inspired by H. P. Lovecraft
Centipede Press, 2008. First Edition. Hardcover. Folio (measures 13 x 16 inches). Black cloth with blind-stamped design of Cthulhu to front. In original pictorial dust jacket and slipcase. Approximately 400 pages. Color and b&w illustrations throughout, most are full page and in color including many foldouts. Two page marker ribbons. This is a very large and heavy book, weighing 15 pounds when packaged for shipping. Extra shipping charges will be required for international orders. Book and dust jacket are in fine condition, housed in a near fine black cloth slipcase. This massive tome features artwork from inspired by the worls of H.P. Lovecraft. The images have been culled from the last eighty years, including works from the pulps such as Weird Tales, dust jacket designs from Arkham House publications, paperback covers from the 1960s and 1970s, fanzines, movies, sculptures, private commissions, etc. The majority of the art is reproduced from originals or first-generation transparencies, and is displayed with a brilliance that has never been seen. There are several pages of fold-out views, including Michael Whelan’s Lovecraft Diptych, which is shown in the book nearly four feet wide. Artists featured include Virgil Finlay, Lee Brown Coye, H.R. Giger, Michael Whelan, Gahan Wilson, Rowena Morrill, Bob Eggleston, Harry O. Morris, John Coulthart, Ian Miller, and many others. Also included are many previously unpublished works and essays. A monumental work.
