London: Printed for B. Barker and C. King both n Westminster-Hall; and J. Brown at the Black Swan without Temple-Bar, 1718. FIRST EDITION. 12mo, 157 x 87 mms., pp. [iv], xvi [xvii - xx contents], 358 [359 - 360 index], engraved frontispiece and four other engraved plates, with additional title-page for "A General Description of Arabia" at page [273], later 18th century calf, with gilt rules on covers, spine richly gilt in compartments, red leather labels; front joint cracked (but firm), other slight wear to binding but a good to very good copy, with the armorial bookplate of Lady Frances Bentinck on the front paste-down end-paper, the autograph and date "W. Bentinck/ Nove. 1743" on the recto of the front free end-paper and "Wm. Northey/ 1741" on the recto of the frontispiece. Laurent d'Arvieux (21 June 1635 – 30 October 1702) died before this work could be published, and it appeared in French in 1717, edited by Jean de la Roque, who dedicated it to Hilaire Rouillé Seigneur de Coudray (1794 - 1759). La Roque added to this 1717 text Two editions in English were published, this one in 1718 and a revised edition in 1732. The work by Ishmael Abulfeda is abridged from a much longer publication.
