The Subterraneans [set of 21 original theatre displays]
Loew's Incorporated, Los Angeles, 1960. Twenty-one original items produced as theatre advertising for the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Arthur Freed production of The Subterraneans (directed by Ranald MacDougall), released 23 June 1960. Including [1] one-sheet poster folded (41 x 27 inches); [2] insert poster folded (36 x 14 inches); [3] jumbo window card folded (22 x 28 inches); [4-11] complete set of 8 lobby cards (each 11 x 14 inches); [12-21] an incomplete set comprising 10 of the 12 photo stills (each 8 x 10 inches). The one-sheet is stamped verso: "SUBTERRANEANS 1 SH 60/29" with a number in ink (1231) & the stamp of Duncan Poster Service in Dallas beneath. Light wear confined to two small edge-chips & a half-inch separation along the central fold. The insert has two stamps verso (cancelled through with black crayon), & the ink number 1231. The jumbo card includes "Subterraneans A 1231" in ink verso with two large numbers written beneath in black crayon (60/29). The lobby cards retain the paper tape (verso of the first & last card in the series), used to bind the set together (with number 1231 in ink on those backs & the stamp of Duncan Poster Service on card 8 verso). Card 1 (which is toned) has two closed edge-tears & 3 staple holes at upper left tip. Card 8 has two edge-tears & two staple holes upper left. The others have staple holes at top border & two have small prices at upper tip rear. Two of the colour stills have creases (one with corner tear) while two others have paper tape verso.
