A Weekly Magazine of short stories, poems, articles, critical reviews of books, theatre, cinema, etc. A bound volume of 26 issues (all ever published) of the short-lived literary magazine edited by Graham Greene and with contributions by, inter alia, Evelyn Waugh, Anthony Powell et al, and illustrated by Edward Ardizzone, Felix Topolski and others. Thick 4to. Attractive modern blue cloth with red leather label to the spine lettered in gilt. Miss Elizabeth Bowen (Theatre Reviewer); Evelyn Waugh (Book Reviewer); and Graham Greene (Film Critic).All original covers bound in. The magazine ceased publication owing to the famous libel action brought by MGM on behalf of Shirley Temple, whom Greene was alleged to have insulted in his review of the film adaptation of Kipling's "Wee Willie Winkie" a 1937 Shirley Temple film in which the not-yet-10-year-old Temple helps her father, a British colonel in India. The magazine was sued for libel and the movie studio won the lawsuit, with the judge writing, "This libel is simply a gross outrage."VG+ and rare.
