Lionelo Fiumi after a first stay in Paris in 1923 and after the wedding with Marthe Leroux celebrated the following year, from 1925 until 1940 F. resided in the French capital. His long, tireless work as a popularizer of Italian culture in France and abroad earned him the title of "literary ambassador" decreed by the international press. On behalf of P. Boselli he founded a "Dante Alighieri" in Paris in 1930, of which he held the general secretariat until 1934, while in 1932 he gave life to the bilingual magazine Dante (Revue de culture latine), which he directed continuously until 9 June 1940 when, forced to return to Italy, he settled in Roverchiara, in the Veronese area.
