Based on the important first editon published by Ritson in 1795, his "single greatest achievement" (DNB). His attempt to collect all the "historical or poetical remains" of Robin Hood was so sufficiently thorough that very little has been subsequently discovered (DNB). The Advertisement following the title page observes that the author "continued from time to time to make additions to his own copy, from which the present edition has been carefully printed. The original engravings, by the celebrated Bewick, have again been used; and from the improved art of wood-cut-printing, will be found superior in clearness and beauty to the first impression" Tattersfield 2.543B. Menzies 1704. Lowndes 2098. Not in Roscoe Bound in full crimson straight grained morocco, gilt spine, a.e.g., by Riviere & Son. Light wear to vol. I front joint, vol.
