Group of Small Cabinet Cards Depicting Native Americans and Their Environs
Arizona, 1890. Nine black and white photographs measuring 3¼" x 3 1/8" on card mounts measuring 4" x 5"; all with manuscript captions, verso. Photos generally very good or better; mounts dust soiled and a few with small chips. This is a small group of well captioned photographs related to Native Americans in Arizona near the end of the 19th century. Four of the photos show Native Americans and include a Hopi mother apparently preparing a meal while sitting with her child and dog, an Apache woman carrying a child in a papoose and an outstanding image of "'Mike'-Apache policeman with his family on his farm, East Fork Whiteriver Arizona."One photos shows a hogan at a place captioned "Oraibi Wash." The rest show the surrounding area, and while the images probably won't make you leap out of your seat, the captions are fantastic:--"Kishuu, famous Hopi spring, home of the Katcinas 60 mi north of Oraibi, Arizona"-"Ancient Hopi Ruin 60 miles above Oraibi, Arizona"-"Scene on trail White Mt. Apache Reservation A.T."--"Entrance into the Cliff dwelling East Fork Whiteriver Arizona"A small but compelling group of Native American imagery in Arizona.
