Contemporary flexible vellum, covers with holes for ties (1 twine remaining).Early-18th cent. manuscript in very legible German Kurrent writing (Kurrentschrift), It contains articles concerning the army of the United Dutch Republics from between 1688 and 1712, and especially regarding the Swiss regiments that were enlisted by the Dutch Republic. In those years, there were regular arrangements between the Dutch government and several Swiss cantons to enlist those Swiss regiments.The manuscript describes in detail the arrangements between the States General and the Swiss cantons regarding daily procedures as exercising, but also on military law and the rules according to which the soldiers had to behave. As the subject of this manuscript was especially directed at those Swiss regiments, the text is in German.Section titles have been written in (calligraphed) hard letter. The 12 sections contain "Articuls Brieff" (pp 1 - 24, with 82 short articles, dated 9 May 1705, followed by "Extract aus dem Articuls Brieff" (pp 25 - 29, in 22 articles); "Eids formular" (p 30); "Standrecht" (of Swiss regiments, with 17 Questions and a Sentence, pp 31-50).The section on exercises: "Exercitium" (pp 58 - 97) with a great number of exercises, a.o.
