The single best photo-illustrated documentary history of the Jewish displaced persons and the camps they lived and worked in. Vaad Hatzalah (Committee for Rescuing) was an organization to rescue European Jews from the Holocaust as well as to help the survivors in their attempt to create a new life after the destruction of their families, institutions and communities. It was founded in 1939 by the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada. Illustrated with black and white and duo tone photographs as well as reproductions of letters by the Department of State, War Department, Navy Department, and others. It shows newly created schools and institutions along with the survivors and their leadership in the German and Austrian DP camps circa 1946-48. A copy sold at auction in 2013 for over $USD 1700.
