FOGEL, Robert William.
The Fourth Great Awakening & The Future of Egalitarianism.
Chicago and London: The University of Chicago Press, 2000. Chicago and London: The University of Chicago Press,, 2000. Inscribed by the author Octavo. Original black quarter cloth, spine lettered in silver, blue paper sides, blue endpapers. With the dust jacket. A fine, unread copy, in the near-fine jacket, trivial rubbing. First edition, first printing, inscribed on the half-title by the author "To Carma, best wishes Robert Fogel 2/23/01". Fogel's "Fourth Great Awakening" refers to the American religious revival of the 1960s and 1970, as mainstream Protestantism weakened and evangelicalism grew. Fogel's interpretation, which proved controversial, places this development as on a par with the previous "Great Awakenings" - the religious movements of the 1730s and 1740s, the movement to end slavery, and the establishment of the welfare state. Fogel won the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1993.
