Some staining at top of wrappers and elsewhere, some toning in the text, 1" vertical tear on the bottom of (unnumbered) page 5/6. Suitable for exhibition and study. FRENCH ANTI-SEMITIC ABCs FOR CHILDREN. Festooned with balloons and letters of the alphabet, covers of the present pamphlet are innocuous; however, the contents are abhorrent. The text and illustrations encouraged French children (and their parents and teachers) to collaborate with the Nazis, and to spread hate against Jews, Freemasons, Americans, and the English. NO COPY IN THE BIBLIOTHEQUE NATIONALE. This rare ABCs chapbook was designed "for use by small children who learn to read and adults who do not yet understand French" (sic). It is filled with stereotypical Jewish caricatures, accompanied by verses in French that spew nationalistic and racist hatred. On page [15] two Jewish men gaze at the French ship Normandie leaving NYC, in front of which the Statue of Liberty holds a Menorah. The author / illustrator, Marcel Mars-Trick, was a known anti-semite; the present pamphlet is one of several vile pieces that issued from his pen. Translated from the original French, we cite only a few egregious quatrains: E (for "Europe"): Europe is for Europeans On this we have to explain Here we want Aryans (A warning to the Jew) I (for "Isaac" and "Israel"): The first warmongers, Were all the Isaacs of Israel Get out of here . to England Or to the devil, for their destruction.
