José Mª Rodriguez. 1938Copies of several documents related to captain Ruy Diaz de Alcocer that cover his activities mainly in America during the 1580s and provide fascinating biographical information of a virtually unknown historical character but who, as the documents reveal, was involved in major events of the Conquest. Through the copy (traslado) of these official documents which he requested in the recently established city of Oropesa del Valle de Cochabamba, Ruy Diaz de Alcocer wanted to have an official record of the documents which he had carried with him that bore witness to his various important services to the Crown. In doing so he has left an invaluable record of the life of Conquistadores whose service to the Crown enabled them in an upwardly mobile world to fulfil different functions: from soldier and conqueror, to protector of the Indians in the mines of Porco, to Judge. Particularly significant is Alcocer's role as a linchpin in Philip II's exploitation of the important silver mines of Porco in Charcas.
