Canisius' Small Catechism was printed over one hundred times in more than a dozen languages. Jesuit Georg Mayr (1564-1623) expressly prepared these versions - with scant text - for youngsters. The images do the teaching. The publisher, Krüger, brought out the editions simultaneously to more rapidly realize profits from his new blocks. In excellent condition (two small worm trails in the blank margin of the first six leaves). Provenance: French statesman, historian and bibliophile J.-A. de Thou (1553-1617), his heirs (Catalogus (1704) I: 81), J.J.
