This textbook on the elements of rhetoric by Aphthonius of Antioch (2nd half 4th century) was used in the Byzantine schools, but remained very popular in Europe, even until the 18th century. The ancient Greek text of this edition was translated in Latin by Rudolf Agricola (1443 - 1485) and Joannes Maria Catanaeo (14xx - 1529 ?) and with annotations by Reinhardus Lorichius (15xx - 1564?).Compared to the edition published the same year in London by Thomas Marsh, this edition printed by Gilles Courbin from Paris, is excessively rare. We could trace only 5 copies in Italy and 1 in the BnF.Title-page with handwritten ex-libris of the bibliophile Hieronymus Manutius.Endpaper and flyleaf with 16th- and 17th-century owner entries and annotationsLower margin of quires V - Aa with wormholes (far outside of text).
