Artist Book - Yang, Haegue
Grid Bloc
Germany: Otto Lembeck, 2000. First edition. Paperback. Very Good. Stiff cardboard illustrated wrappers. 13 pp. Early artist book by Haegue Yang. Paper ruled in millimeter squares with various grid widths and colours. Published in an edition of 500. Per the artist's statement on the colophon page "The world is full of various products which are, however, often unsatisfactory. On the one hand, it is fascinating how well thought-out many things are produced in regard to economic viability. But on the other hand, this leads to very few things which can be used in other ways than what they were intended for, i.e. things allowing other uses apart from their original purpose. Furthermore, there are many exclusively designed but expensive things serving additional social ends. My grid block elicits different possibilities of use, thus supplementing the existing programme. Wherever a demand is presumed, it will be offered for sale." Colophon page sits loose in the front of this book. Some edge wear to the top of the front cover. A very good copy overall of this scarce and important artist book by one of Korea's most prominent artists. Only one copy located in O.C.L.C. (at the Cleveland Institute of Art). Long out of print and now quite scarce.[Attributes: First Edition]
