The 'x' in Devereux's signature slightly trimmed or he went beyond the page. Rebound in half leather with marbled boards. Pencil marginalia throughout. 8vo, pp xv, [1], 421, coloured folding map. "The 'Gorgon' was a paddle-wheel sloop dispatched to the east coast of Africa to stop the illegal slave trade in the region. The vessel made its way up the Zambesi to meet the famous missionary-explorer David Livingstone.
