Old colour. 370 x 490mm The first map of Wales to be published, based on a manuscript map supplied to Ortelius by the Welshman Humphrey Lhuyd, an M.P. and personal physician to Lord Arundel. Tragically he died at the age of 41, five years before his map was first issued. This map first appeared in the 1573 addendas to Ortelius's 'Theatrum Orbis Terrarum', three years after the first edition of the atlas. VAN DEN BROECKE: 21, first state of three.
