Original front wrappers for each part bound in at rear. Large 8vo. Hardbacks. TEG. Bookplate. Some spotting to plates in Vol. I, o.w. contents fine. Contemporary half calf leather, lettered and decorated in gilt to spines, all in thor. vg. to nr. fine condition. John Wolley was a great friend of Alfred Newton, and during his short life (1824 to 1859) amassed a fine collection of birds eggs. Wolley bequeathed his vast egg collection to Alfred Newton, who, subsequently catalogued them and published Ootheca Wolleyana as a fitting memorial to his friend. Full of detail and anecdotes; for example, interesting accounts of the breeding of Golden and White-tailed Eagles and Ospreys in Scotland taken from Wolley�s notes. Illustrated with plates by H. Gronvold, J. Wolf, J.T Balcomb and others.
