J.M. for Richard Chiswell., 1673. 1st. Ed.. pp.[xxii], 144, [32] with seven fine folding engraved plates. 8vo. Hardback. Horticultural Soc. of New York�s art deco style bookplate (dated 1934). Small piece removed from margin of Title. Contents very clean and in thor. vg. condition. One plate with contemporary annotations. Contemporary full-calf binding with blind decoration, some light rubbing and wear to extremities. A very pleasing copy. Scarce. Nehemiah Grew and his Italian contemporary Marcello Malpighi are regarded as the founders of the science of plant anatomy (Henrey). This was Grew�s second treatise and demonstrates his aptitude for precise and detailed observations of plant life.
