First English edition of this important narrative, which Wright Howes calls the "Best account of the Pawnees while yet uncontaminated by Whites." Outstanding and provocative lithographed frontispieces depict (Volume I) "The Pipe Dance and the Tomahawk Dance of the Chippeway Tribe" and (Volume II) "War Dance of the Sauks and Foxes."
