Lawrence, D.H.(translator)
The Story of Doctor Manente Being the Tenth and Last Story from the Suppers of A. F. Grazzini Call Il Lasca
G. Gorigoli, Florence; 1929. Octavo. One of 1000 copies on Lombardy paper signed and numbered by the author. The present copy is number 47. Frontispiece, 119pp., Translation and introduction by Lawrence. This work is a novella, a short novel, composed of varioius parts which fit together with the greatest skill. The story is far superior to most of Bocaccio's long novelle which are full of unnecesary stuff, often tedious.Anyone who knows Florence today can picture the whole story perfectly. Bound in cream colored paper covered boards, printed in red on upper board, central red oval ornament with fleur-de-lis, spine lettering red. A lovely copy with closed tear across the top of front and rear panels of the paper, tape residue to endpapers. Contains a bookplate of the Phoenix on front pastedown. Very nice.
