An absolutely fascinating collection, though certainly not for the faint-hearted, of nearly 2000 black-and-white photographs, at once a serious scientific reference point for criminal investigators and perhaps, to modern eyes, something like a photobook. Subject areas include suffocation and strangulation, drowning and death by water, death by burning and electrocution, death by falling, crimes of passion, assorted injuries, abuse and neglect, and more. This copy is from the library of Paul Buck, editor of 'Curtains', who gathered a collection in this area when writing for crime and criminology publications in the 1970s, specifically taking on the serial killers (as they are now known), multiple murders, and lust murders, widening his scope to include sexual deviancy books. Buck purchased the present volume from the United States, and owned it before he met Genesis P-Orridge and Cosey Fanni Tutti. Given their interests and lyrics, he mentioned the book to Genesis, who was keen to see it, doing so when he and Monte Cazazza stayed at Buck's house for a day or two. Buck recalls that Genesis referred to the book as 'the bible', and speculates that Sleazy (Peter Christopherson) might have acquired a copy.
