THATCHER, Margaret.
Let Our Children Grow Tall. Selected speeches 1975-1977.
London: Centre for Policy Studies, 1977. Octavo. Original blue cloth, spine and front cover lettered in gilt. With the dust jacket. Light white marking to cloth, endpapers somewhat foxed, a good copy in like jacket, a little creased and soiled with short closed tear at head of front flap fold. First edition, first impression, presentation copy from the author to the book's designer Reginald Cline, inscribed on the front free endpaper "To Reginald Cline, with every good wish. Margaret Thatcher". Cline is credited as the book's designer on the copyright page. Let Our Children Grow Tall was Thatcher's first book, gathering her more notable speeches from her first two years as Leader of the Opposition, when she was still seeking to sway public opinion towards her free-market ideology. The book was published by the Centre for Policy Studies, a right-wing think tank founded by Thatcher and Keith Joseph in 1974, and which did much to fuel the neoliberal surge which culminated in Thatcher's election as Prime Minister in 1979. The title is much less common than her later books (Downing Street Years, Path to Power, and Statecraft) which were published after her term as Prime Minister finished with much higher print runs; moreover, Thatcher did not undertake a lengthy signing tour for this book, unlike for her autobiographies, and signed copies are correspondingly scarcer. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]
Bookseller: Peter Harrington. ABA/ ILAB. [London, United Kingdom]
