First US Edition, Second Impression (corresponds with the third UK impression) in jacket with photo of Tolkien in sweater on rear panel of jacket trimmed straight across; "Printed in Great Britain" on copyright page; map present in rear of book but not attached. Very minor wear on the top of the spine. Dust jacket missing portion at top of spine. No foxing of pages. Volume Two: The Two Towers. First Edition, rare 5th Impression, Variant 2 (only 1,000 copies) "First Published in the United States in 1955" on copyright page; printed in Great Britain. Map intact in rear of book, still attached. Fragment of jacket included "Jacket by Walter Lorraine", otherwise no dust jacket present. Extremely light wear at top and bottom of spine. No foxing of pages. Volume Three: The Return of the King. First Edition, First Impression with year of publication on title page and on copyright page. Map in rear fully intact and attached. All points present. 1st impression dust-jacket contains '$5.00' price on front flap. This impression has a 4 printed at the bottom of page 49 and the infamous "slipped-text" in the word 'Legolas' in the 2nd to the last paragraph of the same page. No sign of foxing on the pages.
