Friedrich August von Hayek Signed Souvenir Map.
1974. Rare souvenir map of Fiji signed by Nobel Prize-winning economist Friedrich August von Hayek. One page, the souvenir map was published by Blue Lagoon Cruises with a section on the verso allowing for the autographs of fellow passengers. Signed by Hayek in the upper right corner, "F.A. Hayek" and additional passengers from California, Wyoming, Tasmania, and Australia. Accompanied by a typed itinerary prepared especially for Professor and Mrs. Hayek by Trans Pacific Tours, Inc. In near fine condition. Austrian-British economist and philosopher Friedrich August von Hayek received the 1974 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with Gunnar Myrdal for his "pioneering work in the theory of money and economic fluctuations and penetrating analysis of the interdependence of economic, social and institutional phenomena". His account of how changing prices communicate information that helps individuals co-ordinate their plans is widely regarded as an important achievement in economics, leading to his Nobel Prize. Hayek was appointed a Companion of Honour in 1984 for "services to the study of economics" and later received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1991 from President George H. W. Bush.
