Barfly (Original screenplay for the 1987 film)
Cannon Films, 1986. Shooting script for the 1987 film. Annotation in holograph marker of copy number "29" on top right corner of front wrapper and title page. Last page of script (page 118) is a epilogue, "Background Bar Talk," a series of two character jokes and dialogue "to be barely heard, if needed, in various bar scenes." Screenwriter Charles Bukowski published the screenplay (with illustrations by the author) in 1984, while the film was still pending production. Largely based on Bukowsi's life in Hollywood during the 1970s. Mickey Rourke as Bukowski's alter-ego, the misanthropic alcoholic Henry Chinaski (who's appeared in five of Bukowski's novels as well as number of his short stories and poems), spending his evenings drinking at a dreary LA watering hole, and taking a shot at a romance with fellow alcoholic barfly Wanda, brilliantly portrayed by Faye Dunaway. Nominated for the Palme d'Or. Set in and shot on location in Los Angeles, California. Orange titled wrappers, noted as SHOOTING SCRIPT on the front wrapper, dated 19 November 86, with credits for screenwriter Charles Bukowski and director Barbet Schroeder. Title page present, dated 19 November 86, noted as SHOOTING SCRIPT, with credits for screenwriter Charles Bukowski and director Barbet Schroeder. 129 leaves, with last page of text numbered 118. Xerographic duplication, rectos only. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Near Fine, bound with three gold brads.
