First edition, 8vo, pp. viii, 208; engraved head- and tail-pieces; early dark blue paper-covered boards stamped in gilt on spine, some wear to extremities, tidemarking in signature D, and occasional light foxing, otherwise a very good, uncut copy. The geologist Dolomieu (1750-1801), after whom the mineral dolomite was named, "acquired a reputation as one of the most astute geologists . He was known primarily for his studies of volcanic substances and regions; among his related interests were earthquakes, the structure of mountain ranges, the classification of rocks, and the fashion in which chemical and mineralogical studies could be applied to historical interpretation of the earth" (DSB).
