Washington D.C, 1828. One page, on recto of first leaf; conjugate addressed on verso in Randall's hand. 1 vols. 4to. Randall Accepts Role as Agent for the American Colonization Society. An early letter from one of the founders of the colony which ultimately became Liberia, created by the American Colonization Society. "The long absence and sudden death of our agent M. [Jehudi] Ashmun leaving the valuable colony of Liberia entirely under a temporary government, and the character of the recent dispatches from that coast, have combined to render it necessary for some member of the board of managers to go out immediately to attend to the interest of the society.I have accepted the appointment of agent of the society for that purpose and will probably leave this country in a few weeks ."
