W. together. 296 fine plain engraved plates (all folding.) of minerals, quadrupeds, plants, birds, reptiles, etc. Skilfully bound in 20th cloth. bindings with brownred labels. (More or less foxed/browned/spotted throughout, but in good condition with crisp plates). l Extensive Dutch natural history that claims to be based on the 'Systema Naturae' by C. Linnaeus but which is a compilation of similar works in other countries. As Linnaeus, Houttuyn classifies all known plants, animals and minerals, but in contrast to Linnaeus, Houttuyn gives detailed descriptions of each species.
