Thomas, Jerry; Herbert Asbury, ed
The Bon Vivant's Companion, Or, How to Mix Drinks
Alfred A. Knopf, New York, 1928. 8vo. li,(3),169,(1)pp. Yellow cloth printed in Aquatone by the Edward Stern Co. Top edge stained green. Illustrated. Index. This is the first cocktail recipe book published in the United States, first appearing in 1862. The 1928 edition is the first edition to appear under Asbury's edit, and it was very popular, even though it appeared during Prohibition. There is a stain on the foredge of the rear board with a light stain on the foredge of the final 10 pages else this is a near fine copy. The scarce dustwrapper has light foredge stains, lacks a bit at the top edge on front and back, is rubbed, split at folds, a few closed marginal tears, and has an archival tape repair to the inside of the spine; still it gives a very good appearance. Finding this book in it dustwrapper is a rare experience. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]
