Printed by Thomas Pearson, Birmingham, 1790. 3 vols., 8vo, pp. li, [i], 411, [1] + folding frontispiece; viii, 472; viii, 574, [6, ads] + 8 folding plates. Untrimmed and vol. 3 partially unopened in modern half calf, marbled boards, spines divided by double gilt rules, gilt-lettered direct. Some spotting and soiling, title-pages toned, a few plates with short splits at folds. Small oval ownership stamp to title-pages and final leaves, its contents rubbed out. An updated and condensed version of Priestley's masterwork, initially published across six volumes between 1774 and 1786, describing amongst many other discoveries his isolation of oxygen as 'dephlogisticated air' ESTC T33831.
