Frankfurt am Mayn: David Zopfel, Johann Rasch, Sigmund Feyerabend, 1562. See pictures. With a pleasing patina developed by centuries of viewers. Spine repaired crudely, likely 19th century. Boards, spine, edges rubbed. A little chipping at top and bottom of spine. Hinges cracked. Red edges faded. Bookseller and previous owner notes on front blank endpapers, also two letters tipped-in regarding presentation to a previous owner. Missing N5 and p3. Soiled, toned and thumbed throughout. Some page edge repairs. Intermittent water-staining throughout. Name and date (1700) on title page. Occasional page edge chip or small tear. A3 has crease from fold. C4 trimmed oddly at top, not repaired as others. Brown paint at bottom of F2, affecting text. Name written at inner margin of c1 in an old hand. Edge tear at g4 affects carved border, repaired and crudely redrawn in. Small number written next to all recto plates. Hat at o2 painted, almost looks illuminated. Trimming towards rear occasionally touching headings. Despite notes, pleasing and obviously well-loved. Virgil Solis' Biblical Figures (Biblische Figuren) engravings; this binding includes both the Old and New Testament publications of Virgil; two hundred and sixteen Biblical images in total. The popularity of the scenes in this work often resulted in missing pages, but this copy has all but the colophon of the old testament, and the last engraved leaf (p3) of the new testament (216 of 218 images).
