The first title is a treatise on horticulture. 'The author treats of the garden, its site, soil and moisture; of manures; of sowing and planting; of hoeing, weeding and watering; of all the pests of a garden. of protection against hail, hoarfrost and lightning, blasting and mildew. of vegetables and flowers. of fruit trees. Like his other works, this one displays the author's learning, but it shows besides that he had some practical familiarity with the subject' (Ferguson, Books of secrets IV, pp. 4-5).The second title, a supplement to the first, comprises a treatise on dendrology and dendrological anatomy. The third work, the first edition under this title, is a much revised and expanded version of the author's Nova et mira artificia, 1564.
