1945. Membership certificate, 9 x 11 inches, awarded to the highly regarded American songwriter best known for the musical Showboat and for such standards as "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes." "National Institue of Arts and Letters in Recognition of Distinguised Work in the Arts - JEROME KERN - was elected to membership at the annual meeting held in the city of New York --1945." With an elaborate gold seal, signed by the Secretary, Henry S. Canby and by the President, Arthur Train. In fine condition, contained in its original simple wood frame.
