Overall, a lovely copy of this first American edition. Eric Arthur Blair (1903 - 1950), using the pseudonym of George Orwell, was an English author, journalist and critic. He was well known for his opposition to totalitarianism and his support of democratic socialism. His best known works are Animal Farm (1945) and Nineteen Eighty-Four. Many of the sayings he created for this book are still instilled in popular culture today, such as "Thought Police", "Newspeak", and "Big Brother."
